Presentation experience

My Experience

To start SPC1017 we were separated into 3 different groups and every group was assigned a chapter to do research on and learn about to topic and make a PowerPoint presentation. My group was assigned chapter 3 each group member had to create 2 or 3 slides on the topic they were assigned to do and put any information they thought was important such as pictures to describe something or a short YouTube video showing examples of the topic. The other two groups had chapter 9 and 10 and had to do the same thing as us but with the information their chapter gave. This was the first assignment for SPC1017 and I liked it because it showed that we were going to be doing a lot of group work that involved interesting topics.

Even though my group did an amazing job and I am so proud of all of them for doing so well on the first assignment of the semester for this class I feel like I could have done a lot more. That's why I have to practice speech because I get nervous and then start rambling when I should be calm because I know what I am talking about. I spoke really quickly and feel like I didn't explain myself as best as I could and when I was finished I didn't even know how to end off my part. It was a little embarrassing but I know for the next presentation I am going to be more prepared and more calm and collected instead of nervous and speaking so fast nobody can understand me.

My topic choice was Context it was short but it had a lot of explanation about context in intercultural communication a couple examples are in Low context cultures speakers rely on words and get straight to the point(North America, Germany, Swiss) and in High context cultures much of the speakers rely on nonverbal communication(Japanese, Korea, Chinese, Arab). I started off the presentation with a little information about context then I shared a video 3 minute video going more into detail what high and low context cultures are. My video explained how if you are trying to talk to someone in a high context culture and you are from a low one you have to have patience because it gets a bit difficult to understand.

My Group was assigned chapter 3 as I mentioned before Chapter 3 was about intercultural communication and the difference throughout cultures. My group and I began to present the information that we had gathered from the chapter my group did a amazing job presenting everyone was on point and they had amazing details on the topic and other information in between we had all came together and picked what we had wanted to do the PowerPoint and go further on what their explanation of intercultural communication and other things in the topic. My group had a lot of pictures and videos so if the audience didn't understand us fully the pictures and videos would help everyone be on the same page. My group is really smart and I'm glad to be apart of this group and I am excited to keep doing my presentations with them the rest of semester

Next class Group 2 presented chapter 9 and the group was also amazing they split the work evenly and had great details and created several slides based on their topic creating an entire presentation all my classmates did amazing they knew what they were talking about and didn't even read of the slide most of the time that was one of the tips that the professor gave us. This group included videos and pictures  to show everyone about interest groups and support groups they explained the basics and rules they had in society. This group was outstanding they really had great details throughout the whole presentation.

The last group presented chapter 10 they were all very informative on their part of the chapter had great points and details they did a good job at demonstrating the effect of solving possible issues in between groups my classmates talked about the importance of communication and how it is a important point when it comes to group work because of everyone just did whatever they want in the group it would be a mess communication is key for a group to succeed. Even though this group had the smallest chapter they still did a great job. This group did great ,each classmate gave a great speech on what they were explaining and gave everyone a great understanding of chapter 10 I am excited to see what this group is going to present next because every single one of them is smart and knows how to explain it in a way you understand perfectly.

I learned a lot of important things from all my classmates. The most interesting topic though for me was chapter 3 I love the communication side of culture it is so fascinating how everyone has different languages and we could all learn about other cultures just by putting a little time and effort into it. The other Two chapters were also very informative I learned about Leadership and group communication being in a group is always important to have a leader who communicates and knows how to be a leader  many of the things I learned will definitely help me in the future.

Overall everyone's presentation was excellent obviously some growing needs to be done for everyone because most of us are new to speech and don't like talking in front of people but all of us can get better just by practicing. We are all capable of doing whatever we want we just have to work for it I feel like everyone in this class is going to work to become the best that they could be at giving speeches or writing blogs or anything that comes our way.

Everyone did amazing good job till next time :)
