The Necessity of Group Work!

SPC1017 is my speech class and so far I have had a pretty good experience with it so far.  However, there is group work to say the least 😟. I know what you're thinking because I thought the same way. "My grade depends on other people!" But nowadays, if you want to work on any major project in the work force, it requires for you to depend on a number of people throughout the project. Therefore, making this an essential no matter how much someone can dislike group work. You probably are doing group work daily already and aren't even realizing it just by collaborating with others. To add on to that, the best way of learning a skill is by teaching it yourself. By doing so you are forcing yourself to apply it and just get better and better the more you teach something.

My Real World Experience With Group Work

I may be a bit biased when I say I have the best group to work with and chapter 3 was the best presentation because it was my group. However to say the least the other groups had an awesome presentation full of useful information. To begin, when you hear the words group work everyone automatically becomes scared and worrisome. But, it is something great to embrace because more brains working together makes for something better than just one working on its own.

The way we began the project was that every team was assigned a team leader. There were a total of three different teams. The team leader was in charge of making sure everyone had a role to choose from and the work was evenly divided between all of the classmates and much more. I would like to add that my team & other teams did an amazing job because everyone had an even amount of information regarding the information covered within the topics. My chapter covered the topics of 3-1 Culture & Communication, 3-2 Dominate Cultures, Co-Cultures, & Culture Identity, 3-3 How Cultures Differ, & 3-4 Developing Intercultural Communication Competence. At the end of it we all had a lovely powerpoint slide in which every teammate contributed to creating their own slide via Google Slides.

The Process of Contributing

My process into generating the slide was simple. It began with gaining the knowledge by reading the chapter. I chose the topics in 3-2d Sex and Gender & 3-2c Sexual Orientation. I wrote down any useful knowledge that was essential to learn about these topics. From there, I transferred all of the information onto a collaborative powerpoint where I organized all of the topics covered in a bullet point fashion. Lastly came the presentation.

Having a Memorable Presentation🙈

In order to have a quality presentation you must have a memorable presentation. If your presentation was not memorable than it did not really catch the viewers attention. This may happen due to the lack of photographs/video or poor quality of information shared. Also, you want to make sure you know the information you are sharing like the back of your hand in case anyone in the audience may have any questions regarding the presentation.

My personal experience with presenting my portion of this project was great.  This was because the information was clearly presented and it was short. The nerves while presenting where not there. Although some people do get nervous and dislike presenting anything you will just have to face your fears and give it your best, so it will be done quickly.

A Part of the Audience👂

Being a part of the audience may just be the best part about seeing the presentations. You can sit back relax😌, take notes, & ask any question regarding the topics. I believe that everyone gave a great presentation and the audience was interactive with each and everybody who presented. I really do believe everyone had a great presentation and the knowledge of  chapters 9 and 10 were learned throughout.
